Wedding at The Hub, Royal Mile, Edinburgh

Wedding at The Hub, Royal Mile, Edinburgh

I had a great time helping plan Gemma and Stephen’s wedding at the The Hub recently.

Gemma and Stephen came to me early in the summer last year following a recommendation from one of their close friends whose wedding I had helped plan the previous year.

I met with them and showed them various places to choose from and they fell in love with The Hub. Now those of you who have been there will know it’s a very unique place with a very bold striking interior!  This was one of the reasons they fell in love with it!  They knew they wanted it to look fabulous but they were lost for ideas on how to dress it, so that’s where I came in!

I was in my element and loved every minute of it!  All of the design touches are one of my favourite parts of planning a wedding!

Gemma and Stephen wanted a decadent and luxurious feel to their wedding and this was echoed in their choice of accommodation as we recommended they stay at the wonderfully opulent Witchery the night before and the night of their wedding.  Gemma had the Inner Sanctum suite all to herself the first night which was fabulous and it was a great place for all the girls to meet the morning of the wedding to get ready.

To dress The Hub, we went for a black and gold theme as this was quite a strong scheme that would hold its own against the bright colours in the Hub but still match in well with the colours there.

We co-ordinated sumptuous black velvet cloths with raw silk napkins tied with elegant gold organza ribbon.   Tables were complimented with gold chairs.  In the centres we placed tall vases with lilies and roses with little crystals that glinted in the pin spot mood lighting.  Around each table centre we had tea lights to bring in a twinkle of light.  Around the walls of the room was a pale gold wash of colour to give warmth.  Guests were welcomed by a piper on the red carpet and flambeaux lit the entrance.

I loved putting it all together for them but the very best part of it all was seeing Gemma enter the finished room for the first time and standing there for a couple of seconds before uttering a single WOW!!  That was priceless and was really rewarding.

I’ve added a few lovely photos, courtesy of Simon Grosset from Q Photography,  to show off their beautiful room. Gemma and Stephen wanted a relaxed reportage style to their photography and Simon was the perfect choice!

Enjoy!

Yvonne
