About Sixpence – Scottish Wedding Planners

I’m Yvonne.

I was born and bred in Edinburgh, educated at James Gillespie’s High School and then at Napier University where I graduated with a Bsc (Hons) in Biological Sciences.  From then on I enjoyed a highly successful career in the Pharmaceutical Industry with Merck Sharp & Dohme, and in 1996 married a lovely chap who I met on my induction training course, Steve.

It was during our honeymoon, sipping cocktails by the pool in the Caribbean, that the idea of becoming a Wedding Planner began to form.  The resort we were in often had weddings for couples from around the world, jetting off for their destination wedding, and I began to wonder whether there was any need for a ‘wedding consultant’ in Scotland to help the many couples from the US and Canada that traveled to Scotland each year to get married.

So, in 1997 “Scottish Wedding Consultants” was born and I’ve enjoyed every moment of the past 22 years planning weddings in Scotland.  These days however the whole term “Wedding Consultant” feels a little dated (it was very innovative in 1997 though!) so in 2012, I decided it was time to rebrand to form the company you’re now looking at “Sixpence Weddings”.

Over the past 22 years I’ve met hundreds of couples from every corner of the world and it’s been an immense privilege to take part in planning their wedding day here in Scotland. I think the most rewarding aspect is the huge number of friends I’ve made along the way, so many of my couples keep in touch and it’s wonderful to watch their lives unfold, and their families grow.

Why have I been so successful?  Well, I truly believe it’s because I have always made a close connection with my couples, and that to me each and every wedding is unique. My experience, expertise, attention to detail and flair has helped my business to stand the test of time while so many others have come and gone over the years.  I think I have the perfect blend of many years of experience, yet at the same time I’m young enough to remember that weddings are also meant to be FUN!  I’m in touch with the latest trends, and know all the little tricks and tips that make sure everything goes like clockwork.
