Featured: Rachel Scott Couture – Bridal Wear Boutique – Edinburgh

Happy Friday everyone! 🙂

Today’s post is from the fabulous Rachel Scott Couture. Enjoy!

As owner of Rachel Scott Couture, a bridal wear boutique based in Edinburgh city centre, I’ve very kindly been asked by Yvonne to write a little piece about what I do. So while attempting to form some words that best demonstrate what I uniquely offer and what’s helped us become a multi-award winning bridal retailer, I look around at my Dundas Street shop and get instant inspiration from my carefully selected designer collections. I am also reminded by our bigger-than-life-size rag doll, perched on her branch swinging from the ceiling, that we have something special here and certainly something out of the ordinary.

I’m sitting in a room full of painstakingly and skilfully constructed dresses, each one a unique statement full of individuality but incredibly none of them shouts brashly above the other. They all have their own thing to say of course, they’re all confident and self assured dresses absolutely, but it’s much more of an elegantly understated voice, “I’m here, I’m completely mesmerising and you can’t take your eyes of me but it’ll never appear that that was my original intention. My precision cut, my sleek minimalist finish and my impeccable fabric all allow me to wrap my bride like a gorgeous dupion silk security blanket and keep her free from any hint of insecurities on her wedding day.”

Rachel Scott Couture is all about creativity, vibrancy and excitement in bridal design – keeping a solid base in timeless glamour, showing only the highest quality of couture designers but also being the leading source in Scotland for finding the future bridal trends.

I’m passionate about quality, I’m passionate about incredible styling, and I’m passionate about finding a dress that makes a bride feel the most confident and comfortable on her wedding day that she possibly can be. That is something I won’t compromise on. Whether it’s the intricate detail of the bespoke fabric in a Claire Pettibone dress, the sheer feminine elegance of a Sassi Holford or the superior tailoring of a Stewart Parvin, each and every one has a subtlety and absolute understated elegance that guarantees unsurpassable sophistication.

Surrounded by luxury but also warmth, friendliness and passion, every bride gets an unforgettable experience. I love what I do and have so much enthusiasm for each and every one of my clients. So, after a wonderful ten years in business, I think we’re only just getting started.

If you’d like to see more, why not visit the boutique at 3 Dundas Street, Edinburgh or take a peek on the website at http://rachelscottcouture.co.uk/

LG Makeup Celebrates 10 Years – The Caledonian Hotel

I know what it takes to become a well established Wedding industry professional!  I’ve been lucky to be planning weddings in Edinburgh since 1997 and have seen wedding suppliers come and go frequently in that time.  So it’s certainly something to celebrate when you reach such a fabulous milestone as 10 years, and celebrate is exactly what Lucy Gourlay of LG Makeup did, and quite right too 🙂

I was very pleased to have been invited to Lucy’s 10 Year Anniversary party alongside Steve at Cherry Tree Films, at the lovely Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Hotel Edinburgh where we got to see the wonderful work of Planet Flowers, Stationery by Twenty Seven .co.uk , we got to catch up with Sarah Elizabeth Photography again (follow the link for photos), and of course another highlight was getting to overeat too many slices of Heathers (scrumptious!) cakes!  Top that off with a fabulous goodie bag (love Jane Iredale makeup!) some great chat with friends new and old, and we had a fabulous night.

Thanks so much for inviting us Lucy, and huge congratulations again on such an amazing milestone, here’s to the next 10!

To see what we all got up to, here’s a rather lovely little film of the night courtesy of Cherry Tree Films.

Featured – Bespoke Wedding Hair

How did you become a Hair Stylist?

I became a stylist after discovering my passion whilst I was a Saturday girl in my parents Salon.

Tell us about what you do?

I am an International Hair Artist who specialises in Bridal Hair Styling, and Editorial Hair Styling.  I travel all over Scotland and North of England styling brides who are from all over the world on their wedding day.  I mainly work in castles and Hotels.

How long have you been a Hair Stylist?

I have been a trained stylist since I left school in late 80’s and have been a specialist in long hair styling for over 18 yrs .

What makes you different?

What makes me different is my unique Bespoke styling, my experience, my training, knowledge of what my clients want on their wedding day.  My one to one friendly, confident approach.

The ability to communicate with my clients needs and desires professionally, effectively with a positive, bubbly attitude.

The products I use are Aveda organic based, they’re great for the environment and my clients hair. I also have a designers creations, Corrine Smith Designs, in my studio at home.  This is a great service for my brides who have not chosen their hair accessories, gives them  an opportunity to try out different looks.  I also hire out hair extensions if the bride’s hair is too short to style in a gorgeous updo.

What’s your favourite thing about what you do?

I do love styling long hair and creating a look that’s just been designed by me. Having a bride hug you on her wedding day thanking you for how beautiful they feel kind of makes that a favourite moment for me.

Love styling  bridal looks and models for all session & beauty work. I loved styling at the premiere last year too for TinTin.

Using 3 words, how would you describe yourself?

Creative, Brilliant, Current.

When you were 8, what did you want to be?

When I was 8, I wanted to be an artist  and  I wanted to design lipstick packaging.

And finally…

I absolutely love what I do. To be able to be involved in brides weddings and styling models is really rewarding. It is a fantastic career to work with so many talented people in the wedding industry and in Editorial. I feel very grateful that my career has let me travel, meet incredible people and let me enjoy what I love doing most – styling hair for weddings and models for photo shoots. Also having my work published gives me such an amazing feeling of pride and happiness.

Best feeling in the world seeing a picture in a magazine that you admire, then realising it was you who styled it! Such job satisfaction.

630ft up, she said jump…. so I did!

I just watched this again for the first time in a year or so and it still makes me hoot with laughter, and smile from ear to ear….

We had the most amazing time in New Zealand back in 2006 and 2007 and I’m still amazed I went through with this.  Then again it’s great to have some fun and let loose every now and again!

(oh and my hubby Steve did the video!)

Wedding Planning fun in Edinburgh with Su and Ernest

I’ve really enjoyed the past few days.

One of my couples Su & Ernest were over from Vancouver to meet a lot of their wedding suppliers for their (what will be ) absolutely stunning wedding next year at The Balmoral Hotel and ceremony at the super exclusive Floors Castle.

A busy few days of meetings with some of my favourite suppliers, sampling delicious tasting menus at The Balmoral, discussing wonderful plans with Gemma at the amazing Planet Flowers, watching wedding films with Cherry Tree Films, treating ourselves at Heathers Cakes and many more meetings over the past few days. Their guests are going to be totally wowed when they come over believe me!

Su, Ernest and I have been busy busy planning the details of the day and Pinterest has been great for sharing ideas and working on designing a truly unique event. There is so much inspiration and unique talent out there, it’s brilliant finding things that fit Su’s vision of her wedding and tons of fun along the way, I think I must lose hours each day discovering more wonderful new talent out there!

I do have a rather fabby job.  🙂
